CWS festivities begin in downtown Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The College World Series is back and the party kicked off Friday in Downtown Omaha.
Matt Jessop, whose been attending the College World Series for the past 20 years, says the energy at the Omaha Baseball Village was refreshing after a year of being away.
“There’s a lot of people that are excited, enthusiastic," said Jessop. "Their teams are down here. It's a full packed house."
After taking a year off, the Omaha Baseball Village is back to celebrate their 10th year Downtown. It's a place where fans can show their team spirit, test their skills or just kick back with some food and refreshments.
“I think after a year off, they’re just ready to get out, ready to celebrate baseball here," said Jenny Peters. "For us at Omaha Baseball Village at the Matt, we just want to promote kind of what we are and the experience we offer, and also just to really thank fans, because without the fans, without baseball, none of this would exist.”
While there’s plenty to buy and many ways to play, fans say its good to just see things returning to normal.
“Omaha’s come back to life," Jessop said. "We got our bloodline, our DNA with Sports and events, family, community it's coming together."
If you weren’t able to make it down on Friday, the village will be open throughout the College World Series, so you can stop by before or after the games.
Although the ballpark will not be having its opening ceremony, Omaha Baseball Village and the Old Mattress Factory has a list of DJs performing over the next 13 days.
